Will I See A Physiotherapist Before My Surgery?
You are not routinely seen by a physiotherapist prior to your operation, though one may introduce themselves to you. If you have any queries you would like to speak to the physiotherapist about prior to your operation, please inform the nursing staff and a staff member can attend.
What Should I Expect After My Surgery?
After your surgery, you can often feel tired & slightly nauseous following the anaesthetic. The nursing staff will monitor your regularly on your return from theatre.
A physiotherapist will see you the day after your surgery, and provide you with the initial post-operative advice. This will include:
- Post-operative pain and swelling advice
- Power and sensation assessment
- Bed transfer practice
- Mobility Assessment
- Stairs Practice
No equipment is routinely required to help you walk following spinal surgery, your consultant will inform you if otherwise.
Will I Need Physiotherapy After I’m Discharged?
After surgery, the exercises provided by your physiotherapist should be performed regularly. Continued outpatient physiotherapy is not routinely required following spinal surgery. At your consultant follow up, should your consultant feel you require this, then they will refer you.Enquire Now
